Jonathan Allard puts on great drive at Pombo/Sargent Classic

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – June 28, 2008…Forced to start from the fifth row in the feature following a heat race crash at the annual Pombo/Sargent Classic, current Golden State Challenge Series point leader Jonathan Allard didn’t give up and charged to a podium finish, scoring his 13th top five of the GSC season. The result also marked Allard's second straight third place finish in the annual event that honors legend's Al Pombo and Marshall Sargent.

Coming into the event at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway Allard held a 51 point edge over Los Angeles driver Tyler Walker and looked to maintain that mark with just seven races left till the King of California is crowned. A very warm day greeted competitors to the track, but the racing surface held up well all night and made for some great racing during the feature.

Despite coming out late in the qualifying order Allard was able to rip off a 13.198 to give the K & N Filters, Sharp Insurance No. 0 fast time in the 20 car field. It set him up to start from the sixth position in the opening heat race and the initial start saw him get up to a transfer spot, but a spun car in turns three and four created a complete restart. When the green lights came back on he fell into sixth and as he was trying to make a pass in turn three, the hole closed up and it ended with him getting upside down into the wall in turn three.

Friday win highlights Dirt Cup for Jonathan Allard

By Gary Thomas

Alger, Wash – June 23, 2008…A dominating victory on the second prelim night was the bright spot of the Dirt Cup weekend for former two-time champion Jonathan Allard following a 13th place finish on Saturday night.

Going into the 37th annual Dirt Cup at the Skagit Speedway Allard had hoped to put the event on his resume for the third time in his career. During the weekend he and the team performed very well and were running in the third position on Saturday night when disaster struck in the fourth corner and took away any chance at victory.

The $25,000 to win event presented by Camping World RV began with Allard timing in 11th fastest out of 54 cars on Thursday and bringing home the win in the night’s opening heat race aboard the Village Green RV Resort, K & N Filters No. 0. An eventual sixth place finish in the 30 lap feature put Allard in a tie for fifth in the Dirt Cup standings after the opening night of qualifying.

Allard finishes 9th during tune-up/ Looks to continue recent Dirt Cup success this weekend

By Gary Thomas

Alger, WA – June 16, 2008…Chico’s Jonathan Allard headed to the Great Northwest a week early and came from the back of the field to finish ninth in the annual Dirt Cup tune-up race at the Skagit Speedway this past Saturday night. The Williams Motorsports team had acquired a new engine and wanted to get the bugs worked out of it, as well as get some track time at the wicked fast 3/10 mile clay oval prior to the big event that starts this Thursday.

This weekend will find Allard looking avenge last season’s disappointment when the 37th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup goes green at the Skagit Speedway. After winning the event in 2006 and ’07 Allard came back last year looking to become the first driver to ever win the Dirt Cup three consecutive times.

It was a trying week that saw Allard get upside down in his heat race during both of his prelim night’s, but through all that the Williams Motorsports team was able to work extremely hard and “JA” did his job behind the wheel to go into Saturday sitting atop the event point standings. A second place finish in the A-scramble put Allard on the outside of the front row, but if the weekend wasn’t already crazy enough, the team was forced to make a motor change just after the scramble.

Hard work pays off for Jonathan Allard & Williams Motorsports at Petaluma

By Gary Thomas

Petaluma, CA – June 7, 2008…Hard work, perseverance and a little good luck along the way is a good recipe for winning championships and this past Saturday night at the Petaluma Speedway current Golden State Challenge point leader Jonathan Allard raced to a top five finish during a night that had the makings of being a tough one for the Williams Motorsports team.

Allard went into the Petaluma Speedway holding a 46 point lead over Tyler Walker in the Golden State Challenge Series standings with eight races remaining until the King of California is crowned. The 3/8 mile clay oval has been a very good track for the Chico driver over the last few years as he’s won three times at the speedway and has scored top five finishes in all but one of the events at the track since joining Williams Motorsports in 2005.

The 31 year-old racer started the evening by clocking the third quickest lap in qualifying aboard the K & N Filters, Red Line Oil No. 0. It set him up to start in the third row of his heat race and this is when things went awry. As Allard was racing in the second corner on the opening lap, another car came up slightly and forced him to take evasive action, which resulted in him popping a wheelie and getting into the turn two marbles.

Jonathan Allard scores runner-up finish in Placerville

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – May 31, 2008…Returning to California after a weekend away Chico’s Jonathan Allard came back to turn in another consistent performance at the Placerville Speedway with a runner-up finish in the main event on Saturday night. The result marked Allard’s sixth finish of second or better in his last eight visits to the high-banked bullring.

A beautiful day greeted competitors to the El Dorado County Fairgrounds track and a total of 23 teams were in attendance for the 14th race of the Golden State Challenge Series season. The night of racing was sponsored by NMI Industrial Contractors and the main event paid a nice $3,900 to win.

After timing in third quickest Allard brought home finishes of third in his heat race and fourth in the dash to give him a second row starting birth in the 30 lap feature. The Placerville Speedway had the trademark cushion up top and was very racy during the night, but a number of cautions and red flag periods slowed the pace of the race and made it difficult to get into any kind of a rhythm.

Jonathan Allard finishes 3rd in Elma before bad luck ends strong run on Sunday

By Gary Thomas

Elma, Washington – May 27, 2008…With the Golden State Challenge Series taking this past weekend off it allowed current point leader Jonathan Allard the chance to compete in the inaugural event for the newly formed ASCS Northwest Region Series. For the event at the beautiful Grays Harbor Raceway Park Allard sat behind the wheel of the Mike and Janie Doyle owned No. 1 sprinter.

In the off-season it was announced that the ASCS Northwest Region Series would take over for the Northwest Sprint Challenge Series, which was run by the Wilskey’s last season. The schedule for the new ASCS region shows 15 dates to be run throughout the year and it all began this past weekend with the double-header in Elma.

Like all ASCS series' there is no qualifying held as drawing pills and using passing points in the heat races is what determines who goes into the A and B-mains. Allard kicked off the weekend by driving to victory in the night’s fourth and final heat race which locked him into the main event.

Jonathan Allard & Williams Motorsports persevere for top 5 at Bradway Memorial

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA – May 19, 2008…Showing a never give up attitude this past weekend at Silver Dollar Speedway Chico driver Jonathan Allard and Williams Motorsports battled through adversity to post a top five finish at the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial and maintain a 51 point lead in the Golden State Challenge Series standings.

With the weather around Northern California getting into the 100’s during the end of last week Allard was set for two nights of racing at his home track. On Friday night it marked the eighth Feather Falls Casino point race of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway and going into the evening he sat third in the track standings.

Keeping up his recent string of qualifying success Allard blistered the quarter-mile in 11.672 seconds to record his third straight fast time in the Platinum Powder Coating, K & N Filters No. 0. The former Silver Dollar Speedway track champ then charged from sixth to second in his heat race to transfer into the 25 lap main event where started from the fourth position.

Jonathan Allard finishes 2nd in Chico & 8th in Tulare

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – May 10, 2008…Just one week after picking up his first Golden State Challenge Series win of the season, current point leader Jonathan Allard came back this past weekend and had an up and down go of it at a pair of his favorite tracks. Despite having a tough night on Saturday the Chico driver will maintain a steady lead in the GSC Series standings going into next weekend’s Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial.

Allard began the weekend with another Feather Falls Casino point race at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway. The last couple Friday’s had ended with him being upside down, but this go around found a much better night as he very nearly picked up another win. The ’06 King of California kicked off the night in grand fashion by blistering the quarter-mile in 11.551 seconds to score fast time aboard the Williams Motorsports, Red Line Oil No. 0.

A fifth place finish in the opening heat transferred him into the 25 lap main event where he lined up from the third row. Allard got up into third early on before making a great low side pass during a lap 14 restart to get under Kyle Hirst and move to second. He then had a long ways to go to catch up to leader Andy Forsberg, but a caution with just a handful of laps remaining gave him a shot.

Jonathan Allard extends GSC point lead to 52 with victory at American Valley Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Quincy, CA – May 3, 2008…After putting himself in position to pick up a Golden State Challenge Series win at virtually every race this season, Chico’s Jonathan Allard was finally able to get the monkey off his back and pick up his first victory of the year with the series on Saturday night at the American Valley Speedway in Quincy.

Allard and Williams Motorsports had to work hard during the day on Saturday after a flip the previous night in Chico, but the team gutted through it and worked on the car right up to the point when wheel packing was set to get underway. The night’s racing was delayed a bit just before qualifying due to a brief rain shower that passed over the track, but the surface was worked back in and everything went off as normal.

Going into the night Allard held a 40 point lead in the Golden State Challenge Series standings and looked to maintain that with the season already nearing the halfway point. After timing in fifth fastest during qualifying he finished third in the second heat race before drawing the pole for the dash. The six lap contest saw Allard fall into second where he would run the remainder of the laps to score an outside front row starting spot for the 30 lap main event.

Jonathan Allard & Williams Motorsports persevere through weekend for podium finish in Tulare

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – April 26, 2008…Battling back after a scary flip while leading on Friday night in Chico former King of California Jonathan Allard put it behind him and brought home his seventh top five finish in nine Golden State Challenge Series races on Saturday at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway.

The Williams Motorsports crew worked extremely hard to build a new car for Saturday’s event and it paid off with Allard having another consistent run to maintain his lead in the GSC standings.

Friday’s event in Chico however, marked the fourth Feather Falls Casino point event at Silver Dollar Speedway and for the second week in a row Allard found himself on the pole of the 25 lap feature. At the waving of the green flag he battled side by side with Auburn’s Andy Forsberg and settled into second on the first lap. Allard didn’t wait long to claim the lead though as he sliced underneath Forsberg on the third lap to put the K & N Filters, Red Line Oil No. 0 out in front.

The track surface was very racy on this night and Allard began to walk away from the field in traffic, but on lap 10 as he was lapping Nevada driver Mike Monohan, the pair made contact and it resulted in both flipping wildly off the first set of corners. Both drivers got out ok, but the Williams Motorsports Maxim was damaged enough to force the team to pull down a new car and put it together in time for Saturday’s event in Tulare.
